(no title) via Bipolar Mo - A blog of manic depression in the UK
I came across this story on Liz Spikol's page. At first I thought it was a joke but a quick search confirmed the story at the New York Times.
Timothy Pinkston is a homeless guy with bipolar disorder who manages his symptoms with drugs and alcohol. He sought treatment at St. Joseph's Hospital psychiatric unit in August where he was subsequently detained. While in an intoxicated state within the unit, he said he wanted to kill the president. Now, how would you expect staff in a psychiatric unit to respond to this type of behaviour... discuss the issue?... distract the guy?... create a calm environment and encourage him to sleep it off?... maybe even sedate him? Err, well no, over at St Joseph's they came up with a different response, they called in the secret service.
The next day...
Gefreiter Debra Cagan “Hates Iranians.” via Colcam.Image
One of President Bush's senior women officials, Debra Cagan, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Coalition Affairs to Defence Secretary Robert Gates, shocked Britsh MPs visiting the Pentagon when she told them: "I hate all Iranians."She also criticised Britain for pulling out troops. One MP said: "I formed the impression that some in America are looking for an excuse to attack Iran. It was very alarming."Tory Stuart Graham, who was on the ten-day trip, would not discuss Ms Cagan but said: "It was very sobering to hear from the horse's mouth how the US sees the situation."I love her Iron Cross - awarded for bravery by Herr Führer Bush, I...

Beneath our very noses, Bush and his administrationare using time-tested tactics toclose down an open society.Naomi Wolf gives a frightening rundown of the methods used by would-be dictators to destroy constitutional freedoms. If you look at history, she argues, you can see that there is essentially a blueprint for turning an open society into a dictatorship. That blueprint has been used again and again in more and less bloody, more and less terrifying ways. But it is always effective. It is clear, if you are willing to look, that each of these 10 steps has already been initiated today in the United States by the Bush administration.1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy2. Create a gulag3. Develop a thug caste4. Set up an internal surveillance system5. Harass...
Bush’s Great Wall Of Baghdad - Puppet al-Maliki’s Words Have Little Effect. via Colcam.Image
When Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki said during a visit to Egypt on Sunday that the construction of Bush’s Great Wall Of Baghdad must stop, the question was who carried the authority to decide the future of the barriers - Maliki, so-called Prime Minister, democratically elected, or the US military and George Bush. The answer, it would appear, is that Maliki does not have such authority making him, as many suspected, little more than a puppet whose strings are pulled by Washington, to be ignored and overruled when his opinions do not fit in with the wishes of his masters. The construction of the three-mile wall in Baghdad continued Monday, a military spokesman for the Iraqi government said, despite Premier Nuri al-Maliki's opposition.Experts say the building of walls around Sunni districts...

According to AFP, Iraq’s Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, on a visit to Egypt, announced that he had ordered a halt to the construction by US troops of the controversial three mile wall around Adhamiyah."I am opposed to the building of the wall and its construction is going to stop," he said at a press conference. In earlier update, the US military announced it was extending its scheme of erecting concrete barriers around districts in Baghdad. I cannot help but wonder who is going to win this 'battle' - the US military or the supposed democratically elected Prime Minister of Iraq.See all recent...

In the Ghetto: Bush Begins Forced Ethnic Partition of Baghdad in the dead of nightWorking only at night, heavily guarded by tanks, the Bush Regime in Iraq, taking a cue from Cold War Soviet policy in Berlin – not to mention the enlightened approach of the Israeli government in the West Bank – has begun walling off a Sunni enclave in Baghdad, driving a stake into the heart of the flickering reconciliation efforts among the Iraqi grassroots. The wall, three miles long, 12ft high, made up of 14,000 pound concrete barriers, is designed to separate Sunni and Shia Muslims, and effectively seals the Sunnis of Adhamiya into a ghetto."When the wall is finished, the minority Sunni community of Azamiyah, located on the eastern side of the Tigris River, will be completely gated, and traffic...

Cleaning Up Bush’s “Bad Energy.” via Colcam.Image
A Guatemalan religious site was spiritually “cleansed” by Mayan priests armed with incense and candles after a recent visit by US President George Bush.Coloured candles were lit at the four corners of the ruins, incense was burned and drums beaten to clear out residual “bad energy.”“During President Bush’s visit here snipers occupied this entire area,” said Mayan youth leader Jorge Morales Toj.“It’s a violent way of showing how disrespectful the US empire is toward indigenous people.”Are there enough candles and enough Mayan priests to cleanse the rest of the world after Bush's global disrespect and mad meddling?See all recent...
