Monkey business via Littleacornman's poker n life blog June 23rd, 2008 at 20:07

My youthful bones are beginning to ache a bit after Saturday afternoons exertions filling a skip at my Mum and Dads new place.Friday night had gone reasonably well at the tables.I made about $260 from the $16 turbs and hoped for more of the same for the rest of the weekend....Perhaps the Euroblogger was a sign of things to come as my JJ fell early to Mr Clouds AK.Congrats to Mr C for putting my chips to good use and taking it down again. We'd discussed changing the name of the Euroblogger and now that Mr Cloud has won 2/3 of the games so far, a name change seems an even better idea.In fact I propose a name change every week until I take the dang tourney down!( rendering Mr C the two-time winner of a defunct tourney!)I was also watching the Russians play some great football to beat Holland...

Bluffs n Steals via Littleacornman's poker n life blog April 2nd, 2008 at 19:25

I didn't play too much poker on Monday night and like last night I was actually in my bed early at 0.30am.I did play a few games on Monday and managed a second place in one of them to boost my Stars roll to just over the $5k mark.Last night I played a wee $6 turb ( 18 player as usual) with Juice and won it before blowing $70 at a Bet 365 cash table ( 2 pair v flopped set).I'm trying to add more to my turbo game by incorporating more resteals( versus tight regulars and players I think have a fold button) ,betting into the raiser more often and bluffing a little more.I suppose making a large c-bet with AK when I've missed the flop counts as bluffing but here are some better examples from recent games...PokerStars Game #16395402109: Tournament #83018926, $15+$1 Hold'em No Limit - Level IV...

Scots out in blaze of somethingSometimes the poor Scots do themselves no favours with their anti-English ginormous Chip. Take this offering on the BBC Euro 08 Football blog:After claiming that the Scots would murder the Italians in tonight's qualifying match Braveheart continuesEngland are going out i cant wait to laugh at them ohh england are so great say the most hated nation in the planet Scotland came from nothing u still think ur amazing ur gonna get beat by croatia and im gonna laugh so hard at u nobodys as u continue to be the most hated nation with no euro spotFor this sober assessment to be realised Scotland had to beat Italy (2-1 would have done it) and Russia to win against Israel (2-1 would be fine) Sadly for Jock Strap Italy got the two as did Israel. So its good night for...

Donkey tale via Littleacornman's poker n life blog November 5th, 2007 at 19:51

I watched a ton of football yesterday, dropped Nacho off and then hit the tables, playing two $16 turbos ( 18 player) and winning one of them.At 9pm I began playing the Bloggerment and the DTD game and never really got into my stride in either.I did managed to suck out on Dudley’s Queens with my 99 but I was far from playing my best game and went out of both games after making poor calls. In the DTD game I think I reraised with AK and then called an all in versus AA and in the Bloggerment I called a raise and reraise with 1010 and failed to improve v QQ and AA.I wasn’t really enjoying trying to keep up with the subtleties of play in both games although the chat was a good laugh as usual.I didn’t see who won the DTD game but congrats to Rob at poker4ever beating a tough opponent (...

Bounty hunters via Littleacornman's poker n life blog October 30th, 2007 at 18:07

On Sunday evening I came 8th in the Forum game after running 99 into 1010 and 3rd in the Bloggerment after not being able to lay down 33 to Cogs reraise.I was fairly sure he had me beaten but as it was 3-handed I convinced myself it would probably be a race and of course I ran straight into AA.Congrats to HullJimi for taking it down and to Kenn for beating the Raisetheriver players and two pro’s including Simon “Aces” Trumper to take down the forum game.Fair play to Simon and the other pro Paul “action” Jackson for turning out and doubling the bounties on themselves after last weeks no-show.Yesterday though, was simply a dreadful day.It began when I arrived at work to find my boss has moved to the seat next to mine. I managed to move my pc screen round a bit, but jeez it’s a...

In the last post I mentioned that I have never felt very patriotic. The truth is, I have never really felt part of anything. This is not a complaint but simply a matter of fact statement, similar to “I have never been to Antarctica”.My parents had children soon after they married. Years later, my mother went to the doctor to inform him she had reached the menopause. He informed her she was pregnant. Some months later I was dragged kicking and screaming into a world where my siblings were almost grown up. They were “the boys” and I was “the wean” (for the purpose of this tale, I’ll conveniently forget my sister who bridged the gap between us). By this stage in his life, my poor dad was forever at the doctors. I later discovered The Doctors was a pub just outside his work....

Learning from Rugby via The Scottish Football Blog November 25th, 2006 at 12:56

The news that UEFA are considering rugby’s rule of only allowing team captains to talk to referees during matches should be welcomed. The petulance and arrogance of players in surrounding officials and berating decisions is becoming a blight on the game. Of course football is a passionate game and, with adrenalin flowing and win bonuses at stake, players will lose their heads. That’s...
