Well after Monday's long lie I was determined to get to Edinburgh so had an early night. I woke spontaneously around 6:30am yesterday which is a real record for me of late. I was out of the house by half seven and off on my merry way to the bus stop.My biggest fear was how to use my bus pass. Do I just flash it as I board or what? They give you one but don't tell you how to use it. Anyway I stepped up onto the bus, flashed my card and went to get a seat. I was immediately called back by a grumpy driver who told me I had to put it on a scanner and then state my destination. I did this then walked on "Hey! Ticket!" yelled the grouch.I went back and the old git gave me a ticket. Fine, that's that sorted. After two 2 hours cramped up in a seat designed for a five year old midget I was in...

I just filed a review of Inspirations, an exhibition at ArtDeCaf, a café in Glasgow, and then did a quick Google to see if it has been reviewed elsewhere. It hasn’t, but the coverage the show received in advance of its opening is interesting. Pieces in the Times and the Sunday Herald both focus on artist Shahin Memishi. Seeking asylum in Glasgow, having been forced to flee his native Kosovo, Memishi (an art teacher) had something of a revelation on seeing work by the so-called New Glasgow Boys for the first time, and this show matches his portraits of the artists he admires with examples of their work. I’m absolutely not having a go at the writers of these pieces. The curatorial conceit of showing a relatively unknown artist alongside the old guard who inspired him is...

On Tuesday night I made $17 at Stars after coming 3rd,4th and crashing out of two 18 player ,$16 turbo tourneys.I felt I was unlucky in a couple of them and should have won at least one but if my average profit per game ( 15% roi) is $2 then I suppose I should be happy to have made $17.I lost almost a buy-in at Bet365 when my K3 in the big blind hit a seemingly sweet K J 3 ragged board against a loose fishy type in the small blind. The money went in on that flop and he showed KJ to take it down.I kept my sensible head on and won $50 back at a Laddies $100nl table before going to bed.Last night I watched Rangers lose 2-0 to Barcelona in the Nou Camp.We were outplayed for most of the game although wee Nacho Novo had a great volley saved near the end.20,000 Rangers fans had travelled to Spain...

Congrats to Mair the Bloggerment Queen! via Littleacornman's poker n life blog September 11th, 2007 at 21:26

Congrats to Mair for taking down the Bloggerment on Sunday evening and thanks to all 30 people who turned out to play in it for making it another fine battle.Bloggerment 26 is now open for registration!I finished a lowly 17th after folding a medium pair to a reraise preflop and then not being able to fold KK on an Ace high flop when Dull Trev bet into me with his AJ.Not much else going on at the poker tables as I’ve been very tired over the last couple of nights and haven’t played a lot.My brain is too frazzled just now to think of any kind of proper strategy post, however I’ve been reconsidering the merits of playing Ace rag hands in tourneys.I’ve always reckoned calling a raise with A2-AJ is a definite losing proposition, but now I’m not quite as sure. I’ve not run any...

Well, off we we went on holiday to Mallorca. I got wound up on our 100 mile night time drive to the airport. Would we get attacked by neds at the traffic lights in Dalkeith or Paisley? Would we make our flight on time? But the roads were empty as we travelled through the night between 2:00 and 4:00am. I took a Valium when we arrived at the airport then another before we got on the plane....

You know a country has a, shall we say, irreverent sense of humour when a potentially deadly terrorist attack on that country results in a joke email, and a general feeling of “Fuck ye!” I copy here for your benefit. If this had happened in a US airport, compared to Glasgow: Eyewitness accounts USA: “Oh my God! There was a man on fire, he was running about. I just ran for my life. I thought i was gonna die, he got so close to me.” Glasgow: “Cunt wis running aboot on fire, so a ran up n gave him a good boot, then decked him” USA: “I just wanna get home, away from here. I just wanna get home, I thought I was gonna die.” Glasgow: “Here, Tam, ahm no leaving here till ahm oan a fuckin’ plane!” USA: “There was pandemonium,...

Blogger Tourney + Breaktime via Littleacornman's poker n life blog March 19th, 2007 at 18:34

Big thanks to Tan for producing the excellent banner below for the blogger game.We have eight registered and I'm sure there's a few more ( dD for a start) to come so it looks like we're going to fill at least one full table which is the dogs dangly bits.Keep up the pimpin'!On the poker front I began with a FT freeroll which was basically a qualifer to another sat which started when I'm away to the Dam.On the first hand I was dealt Kd8d and everyone ( bar one) went all in and I decided to join 'em.I made a winning flush and knocked out seven players at once before moving to a new table with a $12k stack.I began playing Laddys late night crapshoot and tried to donk out of the freeroll ,only to win big hand which took me to $65k in chips.Only 1st qualified and I soon managed to donk out and...

It was a bit of a grey day in Glasgow on Thursday … via Bipolar Mo February 24th, 2007 at 05:35

It was a bit of a grey day in Glasgow on Thursday but at least it was dry and fairly mild. We took the subway to Kelvingrove. Walking up from the station, we crossed the River Kelvin and the first thing we saw when we looked over the bridge was an empty Buckie bottle floating down the water. However, this was not the part of Glasgow's colourful culture had came to see.Kelvingrove Art Galleries & Museum had recently opened again after a couple of years of work on "improvements".I was dissapointed as I thought part of the improvements would have bringing out previously stored and unseen exhibits out on display. First impressions are that quite a few of the old exhibits have been removed and in their place themed zones with boards and information screens put up. A bit sad really cos I can...

In the last post I mentioned that I have never felt very patriotic. The truth is, I have never really felt part of anything. This is not a complaint but simply a matter of fact statement, similar to “I have never been to Antarctica”.My parents had children soon after they married. Years later, my mother went to the doctor to inform him she had reached the menopause. He informed her she was pregnant. Some months later I was dragged kicking and screaming into a world where my siblings were almost grown up. They were “the boys” and I was “the wean” (for the purpose of this tale, I’ll conveniently forget my sister who bridged the gap between us). By this stage in his life, my poor dad was forever at the doctors. I later discovered The Doctors was a pub just outside his work....
